Roughly a third of this venture's modelled net income is public support — so it deserves to be understood properly rather than treated as a bonus. There are two quite different pots: annual area and animal payments claimed every spring in one application, and one-off project grants that fund the fixed assets a leased operation lacks. Set your acreage below to see what the annual payments are worth.
The two things worth knowing first. One: everything in the annual pot is claimed through a single application, the SAM-ansökan, due 9 April — miss it and you lose the year's support entirely, since anything filed after 4 May is rejected outright. Two: you need at least 4 hectares of eligible land to claim area-based support at all, which is not a constraint here but rules out a hobby-scale start. If the founder is 40 or younger, there is a materially larger package available: a young-farmer top-up per hectare plus a start-up grant of up to 300,000 SEK.
What the annual payments are worth to you
Set your land and herd to size the yearly claim. Rates are the published 2025–2026 figures listed in the table below; euro rates are converted at the 2025 payment rate of 1 EUR = 11.06 SEK.

Where the annual money comes from
Each block is one support. Hover or read the table below for the rate and the rule behind it.
Pot 1 · Annual payments — one application, every spring
All of these are claimed together in the SAM-ansökan. Rows shaded green are the ones your current settings qualify for.
Why this is higher than the ~0.41M the rest of the case assumes. The ROI dashboard and executive summary budget roughly 410,000 SEK of subsidy a year. This calculator opens on a deliberately favourable setting — every certification claimed, the young-farmer top-up running, and all pasture classified as "särskilda värden" — which is the best case, not the expected one. Turn off the young-farmer top-up (it expires after five years and no later than 2027 in any case) or drop the special-values classification and the total falls back toward the planning figure. Use this page to see what is available; use the ROI dashboard for what to actually budget.
Read the rates carefully. Most of these are set in euro and converted at an exchange rate fixed each autumn, and several are explicitly ranges rather than fixed amounts — the final figure depends on how many hectares are claimed nationally, so a popular scheme pays less per hectare. Treat every number here as an estimate for planning, never as a commitment. Rates are also re-set annually and the current CAP programme period runs only to 2027, after which the whole structure may change.
Pot 2 · One-off grants — fund the assets, not the running costs
These are applied for individually, decided by the county administrative board (Länsstyrelsen) rather than Jordbruksverket, and are competitive — a budget is allocated and applications are scored against each other.
Why this pot matters more than it looks. A leased operation is short of exactly the things these grants fund: fencing, water, handling facilities, cold storage. Investment support pays 30% of eligible costs above a 200,000 SEK floor, and start-up support adds up to 300,000 SEK for a full-time young farmer. Against a Year-1 trough of roughly 593,000 SEK in the cash-flow model, a successful application to both could cover a large share of the startup investment — without adding debt. That said, they are competitive and slow: budget around four months for a decision, and never plan on money you have not been granted.
Your first-year application calendar
Before anything else Register the holding and get your identifiers. You need a registered agricultural holding with a production place number, cattle registered in the central bovine database, and the business registered as a food business if you sell meat direct. Nothing else can be claimed until these exist.
As early as possible Secure the lease in writing, covering at least 4 hectares. Area payments are claimed on land you have at your disposal on the qualifying date, so a handshake agreement is not enough. Confirm which parcels are registered as betesmark and whether any carry "särskilda värden" — that single classification is worth more than double the general rate.
Before 9 April File the SAM-ansökan. One application covers every annual support in the table above. Late filing costs 1% of the support per working day, and anything after 4 May is refused outright. This is the single hardest deadline in the farming year.
Alongside, any time Apply to Länsstyrelsen for investment and start-up support. Separate applications, separate budgets, roughly four months to a decision. Do not start the work or buy the asset before you have a decision — spending incurred beforehand is normally not eligible.
Same year Start organic conversion if you intend to certify. Organic payments and the KRAV price premium both require certification, and conversion takes time — beginning it in year one means the payments and the label arrive as the herd reaches full size rather than years later.
Every year after Re-file the SAM-ansökan and keep the records. Support is conditional on continued compliance, and inspections do happen. Grazing days, animal movements and pasture management all need documenting as you go — reconstructing them later is how claims get rejected.

What could not be verified, and what to check yourself. Jordbruksverket publishes no Stockholm-specific figures for most of these — rates are national. The kompensationsstöd (compensation for less-favoured areas) is excluded from this page's totals because the Stockholm plains fall in a support region that does not generally receive it; confirm your specific parcels with Länsstyrelsen Stockholm rather than assuming either way. Exact eligible-cost rules for investment support, and the scoring criteria Länsstyrelsen applies, vary by county and by application round and were not verified here. Finally, several rates below are ranges whose final value is set after the application deadline — this page uses the midpoint or the published planned figure, which is a planning estimate and nothing more. Before relying on any of this, speak to Länsstyrelsen Stockholm and an agricultural adviser.
Compiled August 2026 from Jordbruksverket's own published pages. Figures are the 2025 or 2026 published rates as marked; euro amounts are converted at 1 EUR = 11.06 SEK, the rate used for 2025 payments, and the applicable rate changes every year. This page describes the 2023–2027 CAP programme period. Subsidy income is real but policy-dependent — the ROI dashboard deliberately also reports profit excluding it, and that is the number to judge the business on. Not financial or legal advice; confirm everything with Länsstyrelsen Stockholm before acting.
